Ningxia University was founded in 1958. It is a Ministry of Education of the PRC and the people's government of the autonomous region jointly build university, one of the state "first-class discipline" construction universities and one of the state "project 211" key universities.  The school is located in Yinchuan, which is the capital city of Ningxia Autonomous Region, a historical and cultural city with a long history and beautiful scenery.

Ningxia University is one of the first batch of universities approved by the Ministry of Education to accept foreign students. It is the receiving institution for Chinese government scholarships for foreign students in China and the only HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test) site approved in Ningxia.  Since the University of Ningxia started recruiting foreign students in 1992, more than 3,000 overseas students have come from Korea, the United States, Japan, Russia, Australia, Norway, Mexico, Sudan, Egypt, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan and more than 40 countries.

The School of International Education (SIE) in Ningxia University is an institution specialized in enrolling, educating and managing international students.  The college has undergraduate majors in Chinese language and literature, master degree in Chinese language and literacy. It teaches in small classes and carries out personalized teaching, highlighting student-oriented features.  The SIE provides standardized and institutionalized management for international students, provides comprehensive and humanized services.  The college actively carries out exchange activities between Chinese and foreign students, organizes a variety of extra-curricular activities for foreign students, organizes Chinese cultural experience activities, teaching practice activities with clear themes.
